We started off the day unsure of what we would do. The day was downright gloomy. The skies threatened rain. I looked at the weather report and all they called for were isolated thunderstorms. So I decided to continue on with our original plan.
Apple picking is a family tradition of ours. Ever since Leilani was 7 months old, we have made the yearly pilgrimage out to an apple orchard to pick ripe and delicious apples. Since moving to New Jersey we have tried 3 orchards and found our favorite is Battleview Orchards in Freehold. This orchard is quite popular and attracts visitors as far as Connecticut! 
Our routine is always the same. We unpack our wagon and walk up and down the grassy paths looking for the perfect apples. Mike always needs to "test taste" one to be sure we have come along a good bunch of apples. This years did not disappoint. 
Although Christopher is not much of an apple fan, he enjoys the process of picking just the same as the rest of the apple fans in the family.
Once we have picked enough apples to use for baking an apple pie and some to use as snacks for the next week or two, we make our way back to pay for our collection of Empire, Red and Golden Delicious and head back to the van. We then drive the short distance to the orchards country store and purchase apple cider, caramel, and apple cider donuts. 
We lucked out and the clouds held up throughout our whole apple picking expedition. Another benefit of going on an overcast day was having the orchard virtually to ourselves!
It was a wonderful way to spend a quiet Sunday afternoon.

Cute color coordinating outfits! I love apple picking as well! Bobby and I took Ava on Wednesday and it was fun...the apples weren't the type we like...but we are going back on the 5th to gets some Melrose and perhaps some delicious if they are still available. Melrose is an Ohio apple that is soooo yummy!
