The week just breezes by! Since our weekend was going to start early (Thursday to be exact) I spent most of Tuesday tidying up the house. I don't know about anyone else, but I personally love doing my final walk through the house before a trip seeing all the rooms in perfect condition and having the reassurance that I need not lift a finger to clean upon my return. As with all trips, even short weekend getaways, all you want to do when you return is recupperate from the vacation!
Wednesday the kids and I were out running around all day. We went to do a mystery shopping assignment (my first, and I had LOADS of fun!), had lunch and then prepared to go to the Radio Disney High School Musical 2 pep rally at the beach. Let me just say that the place was SWARMING with HSM fans, Leilani included. Chris was not too thrilled with this but he behaved for the most part on the beach blanket I set up on the sand. Although Leilani did not win any of the prizes the station was giving away, she had a blast and was super excited that I managed to pick up 6 bookmarks featuring each of the main characters. She proudly placed them in her new backpack to be used for school.
Thursday Mike had to put in some time working from home, so I made a leisurely breakfast before getting myself and the kids showered and dressed for our roadtrip to CT. The first half of our weekend getaway would be spent with my brother Raul, his lovely girlfriend, Christine and son Jonathan. We arrived just in time for lunch. Mike relaxed a bit before he had to report to work at the minor league baseball stadium in Bridgeport. Mike's company was hosting a family event there so the rest of us were going to meet up with him closer to starting time.
The event was so cool! Lei, Chris, & John got thier pics taken and placed on baseball cards. We even had a Time Magazine cover made with thier pictures too. The dinner was not at all appetizing. Extremely dry, non-flavorful burgers, with not anything to write home about hotdogs, potato salad that was being swarmed with bees (YUCK). We were chased out of the picnic area by the multitude of bees and we promptly went to our seats. Another thing we noticed. The park employees have sparkling personalities....NOT!!!! They were all rude and nasty. But of course my brother and I don't let anyone put a damper on our day! LOL
We found our front row seats and enjoyed the game. Mike finished up his work and made it to our seats in the 3rd inning. He came to the loudest fans in the park. We saw a couple of former MLB players playing there. Edgardo Alfonso....who never once acknowledged our cheering; and Carl Evert. He did wave at us and signed some baseballs we were given by the 3rd base umpire that thought we were a hoot! LOL It was a fun game.
Next morning I said goodbye to Raul and Christine since they had to go to work, and once Lei and Chris woke up we got dressed and bid John goodbye. We stopped at McD's for breakfast and then stopped at the Milford Mall. Since we were going to visit Medard and Kristine at thier 1st house, we wanted to get them something special. We went into the Things Remembered store and purchased them a personalized door knocker. While we waited the hour for it to be ready we walked around the mall. Didn't find anything special...so we went back, retrieved the gift and went to Norwalk, CT.
Med and Kris's house is beautiful! The kids had a great time playing with little Dylan who, is not so small anymore! Kris went to help out Kathy so Med ended up ordering dinner from Bertucci's, an Italian Restaurant chain. The food was delicious! Of course this being Friday it was HIGH SCHOOL MUSICAL 2 premiere night! Leilani asked Med if she can watch, and I sat and watched it with her. It was really cute! Leilani and I are going to do another screening of it during the week, since we had planned to do a HSM2 party with snacks and all before we realized it was on the same day we would be in CT. We managed to see Kristine when she arrived home and told her hello and goodnight.
This morning Med and Kristine made a Scrambled Eggs and Pancake breakfast for all of us. We showered and dressed and spent the rest of the morning chatting with Med's mom and Kathy. At about noon, we bid them all farewell and made a quick stop at Stu Leonards (because we were a mere 4 minutes from one...and this is a treat) and picked up some goodies before making our trip back home. Of course we encountered the shore traffic typical of a Saturday summer afternoon. But we just took it all in stride. We arrived home and just plopped ourselves down on sofas for some websurfing, video game playing, and Webkinz playing afternoon.
That catches me up to today. Now we are about to have some Pad Thai (from Stu Leonards) and watch March of the Penguins and then call it a night.
