Since the first moment that Leilani stepped foot on the theater stage to perform at her very first recital, Leilani has loved to dance. At the tender age of 4, she asked if she can dance on stage every day. Since then she has been taking dance lessons. Music and dance is a passion for Leilani. She doesn't merely bop to the beat of the drum when listening to a song. She meticulously creates dance steps for them. Thinking always of performance rather than simply enjoying the music.
For the past year Leilani's dance director has been working on her leg stretches. Leilani has been driven to actually do a split. Of course I told her she has to stetch slowly. Your muscles and ligaments have to adjust slowly to a position which is not the norm. Every day, Leilani has been working on it. She has been furthering her warm ups and stetches during her summer extensive classes she has been attending over the summer. She is determined to learn everything the big girls do.
All her hard work has paid off. Yesterday at dance, Leilani accomplished the split. Add to that she has trained herself to balance and hold her leg up in the air. I was so proud of her. Her director was too. She said she has the love and drive for dance that true dancers are born with.
Like the saying goes, Dancers are not made, they are BORN to dance.
