and since it is a long one, it's still not over! LOL
ROAD TRIP
We woke up bright and early on Saturday so that we can have breakfast, take quick showers, and get dressed and ready for our trip to Bridgeport, CT. We were really looking forward to seeing Raul and Mariana. Leilani and Christopher always have a blast with Tio, and they couldn't wait to get going.
We left at about 11:30am, which was perfect beacause we hit absolutely no traffic going to CT. We made a little lunch stop at Burger King in Elmsford, NY, but otherwise we made it to Bridgeport in 2 hours and 30 minutes. Wonderful! All the traffic was on the other side of the highway...everyone wanting to go to the Jersey Shore, and wanting to go to Nyack, not away from it! Raul had gone to pick up our cousin Luis but had to turn back because traffic was just too heavy!
SUPERMAN RETURNS....
Raul arrived back bearing a special treat....Authentic Puerto Rican "Cuisine" (treats really!) Alcapurrios (shredded seasoned plantains filled with meat), empanadas, and regeno de Papa (mashed potatoes rolled in a call stuffed with ground meat) and tamarind ices! Of course since it is So unhealthy, it is SO DELICIOUS!!!! It was an especially welcome treat for Mike and I since by where we live, we do not have access to those delicacies. Lord knows when was the last time we had some! YUMMY!!! After we finished eating we were going to go to the mall, but Mariana suggested that we should go see Superman Returns, her treat! We thought it was a wonderful idea, and so that is what we did. The movie was great! Leilani cried at a sad scene and Tio Raul had to assure her that things will turn out well, just she watch and see.
BBQ
Next morning we woke up early and I helped out making breakfast for all of us. Leilani and Mariana spent the morning honning thier Picasso abilities (they did some really great work!) and Raul, Mike, and Chris had fun racing each other on a Playstation (or was it XBox?) game. Of course not before Raul getting out his Joe Camel Puppet and having Leilani and Christopher in stitches! At around 12:30pm, we got ready to leave to go visit my friend (and scrapping buddy) Jennifer! Since she knew we were going to be in CT, she invited us over to join in on her family BBQ. We had a wonderful time. Mike is a master of his grill! Even though it was disgustingly humid, he never once complained of the heat, and grilled all the delicious items that Jenn and her mom and motherin law brought out to him. One word...Scrumptous! I had a great time just chatting it up with Jenn and her family. Even though the time went by quickly, it was great to know that my scrapping buddy would be coming over next weekend to scrapbook our hearts away!
The Heavens Opened Up...
After a Brownie A La Mode dessert, we decided to be on our way back home before the thunderstorm came in. But boy did it catch us! It was scary and fun to see the lightning flashes so clearly across the sky! I tried getting a picture but of course it is hard to get a pic of lightning going at lightning speed! so we settled for pics of Leilani and I drinking our Caramel Frappaccino that we convinced Mike to get us at a rest stop! A delicious way to close a fantastic weekend!
